HEADS UP HOCKEY PROGRAM
A virtual, 6-week mental performance skills training series designed for youth hockey players aged 12 to 15. Each session includes a central theme, learning objective, and practical activity or discussion, with hockey-specific applications throughout.

Heads Up Hockey is an interactive online skill training sessions that teaches mental skills proven to boost confidence, focus, and resilience. Each week, you’ll explore a key topic, learn practical strategies, and try out real-world exercises tailored specifically for hockey players.

YOUR MENTAL TRAINING JOURNEY
Follow a structured six-week progression designed to strengthen mindset, focus, and resilience.
WEEK 1: INTRODUCTION TO MENTAL PERFORMANCE
Objective: Understand what mental skills training is and how it impacts hockey. Understand why and how mental skills training can take your game to the next level, increase consistency, and dial in your focus. Learn the difference between mental health and mental skills. Self-identify several individual target areas to build skills to enhance game.
WEEK 2: PROCESS OVER OUTCOME & MANAGING EXPECTATIONS
Objective: Players will learn how managing expectations and shifting attention to what they can control to reduce pressure, improve focus, and boost consistent performance on the ice. Learn to focus on what leads to positive outcomes as opposed to the outcome itself.
WEEK 3: BUILDING & MAINTAINING CONFIDENCE
Objective: Learn how confidence is developed and sustained through action. Identify common confidence crushers and how they work to erode confidence. Learn practical skills to combat confidence crushers.
WEEK 4: EMOTIONAL REGULATION & COMPOSURE OBJECTIVE
Objective: Players learn how to manage emotions, stay composed under pressure, and bounce back quickly from mistakes so they can make smart plays and perform their best in any situation.
WEEK 5: TRUSTING YOUR SKILLS, FROM PRACTICE TO GAME DAY
Objective: Players will learn effective mindset approaches to practice vs. games and how to confidently trust skills for consistent game-day performance.
WEEK 6: THE POWER OF A PREGAME & POSTGAME ROUTINE
Objective: Learn mental advantages of a consistent Pregame routine to help athletes manage nerves, focus attention, and step into competition with confidence and how to use a Postgame routine to improve emotional regulation, reflection, and recovery to support continued development.
MEET YOUR COACH

Dr. Meyers is a Licensed Psychologist in Minnesota with specialized training in health, nutritional, and sport psychology. She brings a unique blend of over a decade of clinical expertise and applied sport experience, having coached youth hockey for athletes ages 8–18. As a former college hockey player, she has firsthand understanding of the developmental, psychological, and performance demands athletes face. By integrating clinical and sport psychology, she offers evidence-based strategies to address mental health concerns, support resilience, and promote healthy performance across all ages and levels of sport. Dr. Meyers frequently provides education and consultation to teams, organizations, parents, and other stakeholders who influence sport performance and athlete health. She has provided a number of trainings to educators, coaches, and other groups seeking education in mental health.​
